Umrah is a deeply spiritual journey that can be performed in a few hours of dedicated worship. Learn the 5 core steps from Ihram at the Meeqat to Halq & Taqsir.
The 5 Steps of Performing Umrah
Umrah is simple, beautiful, and profound. Our on-ground counselors walk with you step-by-step in Makkah.
1. Entering Ihram & Reciting Talbiyah
Perform ghusl, put on Ihram garments, offer 2 Raka'at Sunnat al-Ihram, declare your intention (Niyyah) for Umrah, and begin reciting the Talbiyah (Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk...).
2. Performing Tawaf Around the Holy Kaaba
Enter the Mataf with humility. Perform 7 circuits around the Holy Kaaba starting at Hajr al-Aswad (The Black Stone) while reciting prayers and supplications.
3. Prayer at Maqam Ibrahim & Drinking Zamzam
Offer 2 Raka'at behind Maqam Ibrahim (or anywhere in the Haram if crowded), make sincere Duas, and drink blessed Zamzam water until satisfied while standing facing the Qibla.
4. Performing Sa'i (7 Laps Between Safa & Marwah)
Ascend Mount Safa, face the Kaaba, recite the prescribed Duas, and complete 7 laps between Safa and Marwah, ending at Marwah in honor of Hazrat Hajra (RA).
5. Halq (Shaving) or Taqsir (Trimming Hair)
Men shave their head completely (Halq, recommended) or trim hair equally (Taqsir). Women trim a fingertip's length of hair. With this, Umrah is complete and Ihram restrictions are lifted!
Umrah Do's & Don'ts
Ensure your Umrah is performed according to authentic Sunnah guidelines with these essential tips.
Recommended (Do's)
- ☪ Maintain full Wudu (purity) throughout the Tawaf around the Kaaba.
- ☪ Recite Talbiyah continuously from Meeqat until starting Tawaf.
- ☪ Carry your Al-Baraka hotel card & group leader contact in Makkah.
- ☪ Take advantage of quiet late-night hours for Tawaf with family members.
- ☪ Perform Halq or Taqsir promptly after completing the 7th lap of Sa'i.
Prohibited in Ihram (Don'ts)
- ☪ Do not apply scented soap, perfume, or fragranced lotion after Ihram.
- ☪ Men must not cover their head with caps or hoods while in Ihram.
- ☪ Do not trim nails, cut hair, or pull out facial hair before Halq/Taqsir.
- ☪ Avoid pushing, shoving, or rushing others in Mataf or Sa'i corridors.
- ☪ Do not leave your luggage unattended at airport or hotel lobbies.
